He was born in Parsons on May 5, 1960 to Richard J. and Helen L. (Smith) Kennedy. He grew up in Parsons and graduated from Parsons High School. In his adult years he had lived in St. Paul, DeKalb, Illinois, Lenexa and since 2002, in Pittsburg. He grew up in the St. Patrick’s Catholic parish in Parsons and also had belonged to St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul.
Mark was employed by Peabody TecTank for 23 years as an estimator, working both in Parsons and in DeKalb, Illinois.
In August of 1986 he married Brenda Born, of St. Paul. They became the parents of three daughters and later divorced.
He is survived by three daughters, Nichole Kennedy, of Overland Park, Lauren Howe and husband Nate, of Lawrence and Devon Kennedy, of Lawrence; his father, Richard Kennedy, of Pittsburg; a sister, Sherri Beitzinger and husband, Bob, of Pittsburg; and three brothers, Doug Kennedy and wife Linda, of Parsons, Scott Kennedy and wife Sarah, of Olathe and Brandon Kennedy of Pittsburg. His mother, Helen Kennedy, preceded him in death on March 3, 2009.
The Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Parsons, with Fr. Robert McElwee officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons.
The Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m., Friday, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons, with Fr. Jason Borkenhagen leading. Visitation will follow the rosary.
