Walton Haltiwanger Sutcliffe was the wife of Henry James Dickerson Sutcliffe. She was the daughter of Dr. John R. Haltiwanger and Emily Morgan Haltiwanger. She was the sister of Lillian Haltiwanger Askew and Eva Haltiwanger Anderson, and the mother of Margaret Sutcliffe (who died in infancy), Henry James Dickerson Sutcliffe Jr., Katharine Sutcliffe Wakefield, and Hamilton Branch Sutcliffe. Prior to her marriage in 1888, she taught at the Massie School in Savannah. In her later years, she worked as night secretary for the YWCA in Savannah. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Savannah and was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
