Mrs August Stark, Traveler, Dies at 70
Charlemont - Mrs Bessie (Legate) Stark, 70, of Main Street, widely-known lecturer on world traveler, died Sunday in Western Massachusetts Hospital, Westfield.
Born in Charlemont April 12, 1897 daughter of Frederick B and Ida L (Brackett) Legate, she traveled extensively and returned from an around-the-world trip in December. She traveled to Europe four times in the past 10 years. She was known in the Franklin and Hampshire county area for her lectures on travel.
She was a member of the Charlemont Federated church and the Ladies Aid of the church. She was married to Phillip Kimball in 1917. He died many years ago. Her second husband, August Stark, died in 1948.
She leaves a son Richard Kimball of New York City; two brothers Harry E Legate of Charlemont and Phillip D Legate of Duxbury, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Wednesday at 2.30 in Charlemont Federated Church with Rev. Henry Bartlett officiating. Burial will be in Leavitt Cemetery, Charlemont. Calling hours at Smith funeral home Shelburne Falls, are tonight 7 to 9.
