OBITUARY: Sarah "Aunty Sally" Louise Kahoiwai Manoa Kaahihilaualoha Peters Clark Kamalani --
Age 88, died Nov. 13 at home. She was born to Sarah Nallialmoku Barrett and Henry Haalililo Peters on Feb. 16 1911 in Honolulu, the grand daughter of Mikona Kalaikini and Kahoiwai Anakalea who was the daughter of Peneku Davis, who was the daughter of Kahaanapilo a high cheiftess, noted genealogist and chanter, and George Hueu Davis son of Isaac Davis a member of the Aha Alii, consort of Kamehameha the Great. Sally attended Maemae and Kauluwela Schools and graduated in 1931 from the Kamehamaha School for Girls. Sara played the part of Rosa, the lovely Spanish daughter, in the operetta "Fire Prince" with both charm and stage presence. When Helen Wills, of Vogue Magazine, visited Kamehameha she selected Miss Peters to sketch as the girl best representing the Hawaiian type. Her voice had a range of a woman many years older than she and her knowledge of music gave her the ability to interpret every note that the author had included in the score. A class song leader for 5 years, she continued her singing as a vocalist of several singing groups in Honolulu including then popular "Hawaii Calls" and a lead vocalist for "Bina Mossman's" singing group. During the war years she did the USO circuit and entertained the military troops at all the different bases located throughout the islands with a group Called Leilani and Her Happy Maidens. It was started by her sister Kumu Caroline Tuck. They were very popular and were always requested by the different armed services to perform. Aunty Sally was a tour director for Uni Tours. She taught hula in Kailua for eight years and through most of her adult life she taught , in Hawaiian, Sunday school at "Ka Makua Mau Loa Church".
