Hazel Johnson Smith, age 83, of Springfield, died December 29, 2006, in Christian Health Care East. She was born in Ozark, Missouri, to Thomas Jefferson and Myrtle (Swadley) Allen, who preceded her in death.

A lifelong resident of the area, Hazel and her husband Vernon Johnson owned and operated a saw mill business at Chadwick.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Opal Allen and Nancy Allen; one brother, Henry Clay Allen; two husbands, Vernon Johnson and Cecil Smith; and a brother-in-law, two nephews and one great-nephew.

Survivors include her sister, Lillie Fletcher; nephews, Delbert Hale, Cecil Hale, Donnie Allen and Jerry Allen; nieces, Velma Long, Delores Dick, Mary Coble and Margie Allen; great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews; and a host of good friends.

Services for Mrs. Smith will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at 1 p.m. in the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Midtown, 1635 N. Benton, Springfield, with a visitation one hour prior to services beginning at noon. Interment will follow at the Prospect Cemetery near Ozark.
