Irene, 99, of Marshall, MI. passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Bronson at Home Hospice Residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born to Arthur and Elizabeth (McCleod) Rivers.

During WWII, Irene helped support her family by working at Albion Malleable Iron Company. She was also employed with Oaklawn Hospital for 11 years. Irene met the love of her life, the late Alfred Ansell, who was on leave from Germany, at a dance. After that, they frequently ran into each other, even at work. Ironically, they were both employed there. In 1945 they were married in Lansing, MI.

Irene was sweet, very social, never having an enemy. She enjoyed watching the PBA bowling on TV, especially Pete Webber and Mark Roth. However, her favorite bowlers to watch were her grandchildren. Every Saturday morning she went to Marshall Lanes to see them. She was even awarded a certificate for being "The Grandma." Irene joined a senior bowling league for a couple years.

She was a Chicago "Cubbies" fan. If she couldn't watch the game she was listening to it on the radio. Irene resided at the Marshall House for 36 years. She was proud to be the longest living resident there. When going out to dinner or attending an event with Irene, she would always insist on paying. When someone paid, she would try to slip money in a pocket or in someone's purse.

More than anything Irene loved her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, William (Judith) Ansell; daughter, Mary Rocco; grandchildren, Spencer Ansell, Nicole Schwarz, Mike Rocco, Michelle Young, Kevin (Leah) Rocco; and 7 great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alfred R. Ansell (1964); parents, 2 sisters and 5 brothers.

Funeral services were with Rev. James Codde officiating. Interment was at Oakridge Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Bronson at Home Hospice Residence in Battle Creek, MI.
