NEWS NOTES OF CLINTON

Louisa Hensler Dies.

Clinton, Oct. 30. -(Special)-

Mrs. Louisa Hensler Dies.

At the home of her son on East Woodlawn avenue, this afternoon occurred the death of Mrs. Louisa Hensler, mother of Fred Hensler, a brakeman on the Illinois Central railroad. Mrs. Hensler was ill but one week with pneumonia, which caused her death.

Louisa Paul was born in Ohio, Dec. 7, 1841,[family records show 7 Dec 1939] and with her parents came to Illinois, when about ten years old, settling at Kappa. After residing there for some time, she moved to Lexington with her mother, after the death of her father.

Mrs. Hensler was twice married, the first time to Nelson Ford. They were married in Ohio [they were married 08 Feb 1857,Chenoa, Illinois - Vol C Page 308 McLean County--Illinois Marriage Index] and his death occurred in 1859. A daughter from this union survives, Mrs. Ollie Hurst of Lexington. She was again married in 1861 to Francis Hensler, and from this union two children survive, Mrs. Ida Stine of St. Louis, Mo., and Fred A. Hensler, of this city. She has made her home with her son and family in this city for the last seven years. Deceased was a member of the Methodist church and was highly respected.

Note: Occasionally errors occur in obituaries. I have inserted information to refute published information.
------------
I located the family living "on the north side of the Mackinaw" (river) in McLean County in 1850, on the 26th of October. This was before townships were formed in this area in 1851. The Mackinaw runs near Kappa, IL., which is now in Woodford County, but then was a part of McLean County. The Mackinaw river also runs near Lexington close to Money Creek.
Lexington, IL was listed as the closest post office in the 1850 census.

Louisa was in the household, and was said to be 11 years old at that time. That would put her birth year at 1838, if her birthday was two months later, in December. It's possible that there was incorrect information given in her obituary.

--------------
In Census -June 1860 Louisa was enumerated in Chenoa, Ilinois living with Nelson's parents and sister as well as her children- Ellen (2yrs) and Nelson Jr. (1/2 yr)

Louisa and Nelson Ford had two children:
Ellen Olive- 20 Feb 1858-04 Nov 1923 who married George Washington Hurst; a son, Nelson Ford- born 25 Dec 1859. In 1923, Nelson, Jr. lived in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, and came back to attend the funeral of his sister. Ellen's obit included her siblings: "She leaves one brother, Nelson Ford, of Fon du Lac, Wisconsin; one half brother, F. A. Hensler, of Champaign, and two half sisters, Mrs. R. M. Garrett, of Pueblo, Colorado, and Mrs.[Oscar] Ida Stine of St. Louis, Missouri." (Half sister Harriet had passed)
