EAST, Edward Gray, 74, of 2015 John Lynch Place, Lynchburg, died Wednesday, July 30, 1997, at Lynchburg General Hospital. Mr. East was born April 9, 1923 in Altavista to the late Luther Lafayette East and the late Holmes Laughan East. He was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church, and retired from the Mead Corp. Mr. East was a graduate of Altavista High School, and a veteran of World War II. He is survived by three daughters, Susan Dawson and her husband, Fred, of Goose Creek, S.C., Robin Chenault and her husband, Dale, of Evington, Jill East of Lynchburg; one son, Lynwood T. East of Roanoke; three sisters Eva Myers and her husband, T.O. Myers, of Altavista, Betty Jean Gregory of Richmond, Rebecca Haxton of White Plains, N.Y.; two brothers, Raymond East and his wife, Margaret, of Roanoke, Gary East of Florida; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday in Greenhill Cemetery, Altavista, with the Reverend Nevin Allwine officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2316 Atherholt Rd., Lynchburg, Va. or the American Lung Assoc., 6318 Peters Creek Rd., Roanoke, Va. Woodall-Tharp is in charge of arrangements.
