Born Nov. 13, 1955, in Selma, Ala., she was the daughter of Joseph Daniel Araujo, of Fairhaven, Mass., and the late Latha Absher-Green. Susie was a member of Waymart American Legion Post 889 Women's Auxiliary and a volunteer for the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program. Before retirement, she worked at the Waymart Knitwear and Cozy Corners Personal Care Home in Seelyville.
Susie was most known by her family and friends for her amazing cooking and baking talents. She was affectionately called "Grummy" by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are four children, Victoria Durst and husband, Steve, Crownsville, Md.; Tammy Emmett and husband, Joe, Carbondale; Scott Carney and wife, Kelly, Equinunk; and Sean Carney, Brentwood, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, Kiersten Durst, Cassondra Harris, Kattie Sue James, Tyler Carney, Kayla Emmett, Tamera Carney, Hailey Carney, Austin Carney and Walker Carney; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Barry Araujo and wife, Marcia, Sagamore Beach, Mass.; Mark Araujo and wife, Susan, Helena, Ala.; Tony Araujo, Helena; a sister, Barbara Renoir and husband, Norman, North Dartmouth, Mass.; many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Patsy Reis; two brothers, Arthur Araujo and Joseph Araujo; and her mother-in-law, Florence Welles.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Jenkins Funeral Home-Edward Howell, funeral director, 269 Belmont St., Waymart, with Betty Ellen Barrett officiating.
Friends may visit Monday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Following cremation, graveside committal services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Waymart Cemetery at Canaan Corners, Owego Turnpike, Waymart, with Betty Ellen Barrett officiating. All attending on Wednesday are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
