Roland Goff was the 3rd son of Harry Louis Goff, Sr & Mary Jones Goff. He was the brother of Stanley, Wayne & Harry (also of a sister Margaret who died before he was born).
He voluntarily left the comfort of his home and a thriving family business to defend his country in the Army Air Corps in WWII. He was a 1st Lt, and Flight Commander of a new Liberator Bomber, which his crew christened the "Seafood Mama" after his family's civilian business. Her nose art was a topless mermaid holding a bomb in the air like it was a football she was about to pass.
In May 1943, Roland and his crew were returning from a mission in the Liberator Bomber "Double Trouble" when attempting a landing under unfavorable conditions, the plane crashed, killing Roland & his crew. Local papers inaccuratly stated he was on the Seafood Mama killed in a "hot fight" in the Pacific.
Roland was never married. He was the God Father of his brother Wayne's young daughter Carol.
I would love to hear from anyone who knew Roland or had a family member in his crew. I believe his crew included: 2nd Lt Howard M. Hamill, 2nd Lt Raymond C Keller, 2nd Lt James H Peterson, S/S Gene F Hock, S/S Gordon C Johnson, Cpl Anton W Pfeifer, Cpl John H Miller, Cpl James C Roth, & Cpl James H Bond.
