Son of Thomas and Eleanor Spear Moffett, both born in Ireland, he was a farmer, lived in Maple Dale, died there of chronic myocarditis with interstitial nephritis, and grip, per death certificate 2358, whose informant was W. T. Moffett of Franklin, and which spells the surname Moffett. Buried Jan 29 1913.

Per Pennsylvania Marriages, on Aug 12 1901 in Franklin, Richard Moffitt, 71, son of Thomas and Eleanor Moffitt, married Elizabeth Jones, 71, daughter of Edward and Mary Morgan.

Cemetery records give his burial plot as G 1, but his first wife is listed as being in G 7.

Richard Moffett, on of the best known citizen's of this area, died at 4:30 pm Sunday at his home on the Pittsburgh road, Frenchcreek Township. He was born in Philadelphia Feb. 14, 1830.

He came to Venango County in 1842, settling in Oakland Township. He moved to Frenchcreek Township 43 years ago.

He leaves three sons; four daughters; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be at his home at 1 pm Wednesday with Rev. Martin Aigner officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery.
