He attended Lincoln Public Schools and graduated from Bethany Nazarene College (Southern Nazarene University) and the University of Oklahoma. Ruben served in the Army – Chemical Corps Division. He worked as a supervisor in the cytogenetics lab at Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City with Dr. J. Rodman Seely.
Ruben enjoyed several hobbies. He was a master gardener and the lemon pie king. He participated in the Oklahoma City Photography Club and Volkswagon Club. Most of all, he enjoyed spending quality time with his family and 8 grandchildren.
Ruben served faithfully in Nazarene churches. He was an active member since he was 12 years old. He loved God and left a loving legacy. Ask him how he was doing and he would say, "Better than I deserve."
He was predeceased in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mary; son, Ruben III "Trey" and wife Dawn, grandchildren, Ruben IV, Anderson, Derrek, Thomas, Nathan, and Harmon; daughter, Ashlee Wilkening and husband Chad, grandchildren, D'Lanee and Ryan; brother, Arthur Kendle Bley; nephew, Chris and wife Danielle and their children Zachary and Vivienne; sister and brother-in-law, Melva and Mitch Sexton; niece, Michelle Watkins and husband Ray and their children Jessica, Paige and Luke; nephew Mark Sexton and wife Kendra and their children Emily and Patrick.
Viewing will be Friday, 8am-9pm, with family present from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Services will be held Saturday, November 19, 10:00am at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. He will be laid to rest at Yukon Cemetery.
