He was born in Soso, Mississippi on June 17, 1931 and moved to Joliet, Illinois in 1952. He was employed at Material Service Corporation in Lockport, IL and retired after 40 years of service.
During his 22 years of retirement, he enjoyed gardening, junking and traveling to visit his family and friends.
A.C. leaves to cherish precious and lasting memories to his loving wife of sixty-one years, Annie Shelby known as Tiny; six children, Bobby Shelby, Diane Nixon, Joanne Shelby, Brian Shelby, Steve (Robin) Shelby and Vincent (LaKeshia) Shelby; thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; three sisters; Rachel Pittman, Irma (Delvin) Knight, Elnora (James) Keys; three brothers, Roy C. (Gladys) Shelby, Curly B. Shelby and James (Joyce) Shelby; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otha and Maggie Shelby; six sisters,Jessie Lee, Maggie, Myrtis, Lucille, Annie Lee and Creola; three brothers, Lenell, Julius and Jimmie Dell; mother-in-law, Pearlie McDaniel and father-in-law, Curlie Craig.
