Alvah "Glenn" Griffin, 84, of New Franklin (Manchester), passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Summa Barberton Hospital after a long illness.

Glenn was born May 8, 1929 in Oka, West Virginia (Calhoun County). As a young man, he worked in the family's sawmill business with his dad and brother, Ralph. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the United Fellowship Club, member of Teamsters Local #92 and retired from The Spindler Co. in North Canton, Ohio. Growing up in Calhoun County, one of dad's best memories was going to school in a one room schoolhouse. His teacher Paul "Pete" Bush, who used to room and board with the Griffin's family in Oka, years later, ended up marrying Glenn's oldest sister, Verda. Pete was always considered a member of the family and dad had such great memories of him. Dad also told many stories of growing up with the Jarvis and Cottrell families in Oka, he said "those were the best of times". Dad loved taking his trips back "home" to West Virginia to visit with family & friends. Family and friends were important to dad, along with working in the garden and camping, he enjoyed Bluegrass Music, NASCAR, Cleveland Browns/Ind-ians, WVU football and basketball, Ohio State football/bas-ketball and the University of Akron's soccer team.

Preceded in death by his parents, Reese B. & Alice (Lloyd) Griffin; mother and father-in-law, Walter and Ludie Sexton; sister, Verda (Pete) Bush; brother, Cecil "Ralph" Griffin; and brother-in-law, Gary Sexton. Surviving is his loving wife of almost 63 years, Joanne (Sexton), whom he married December 23, 1950 in Indiana. Glenn is also survived by daughters, Susan (Bill) Sands of Manchester, and Cindi (Troy) Rankin of Orange Park, Florida; and adopted son, Rodger Lee Griffin of Manchester. Dad always considered Bill and Troy his own sons, never referring to them as sons-in-law, but as his own sons. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Billy Sands, Brianna, Thomas and Reese Rankin, who loved and adored him dearly. He also leaves behind two sisters and one brother; aunt, Halcie Dawson; and numerous nieces. nephews, cousins and many friends. His sweet little pug, Roxie; and his cat, Miss Puss (Pudge).

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to New Franklin EMS/Fire, Summa Barberton Hospital Staff, Summit Pulmonology, Dr, Louis Tan MD, Dr. Kian Bhe MD and the NEOCS Group.

Cremation has taken place. Friends may call FRIDAY, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 E. Cherry (Rt. 93, Canal Fulton), with a Memorial Service immediately following with Tim Stevenhagen officiating.
