MRS. SUSAN THOMAS DIED EARLY TODAY
RITES TO BE HELD FRIDAY AFTERNOON
Mrs. Susan Alberta Thomas, widow of Nathan Edward Thomas, died at 1:30 o'clock this morning at Susan's Nursing Home.
Mrs. Thomas had been in failing health eight years, seriously ill two years and a patient in the nursing home eight months.
She was born April 4, 1878 in Linn County, a daughter of William and Elizabeth (Duffield) Dowell.
On Sept. 6, 1896 she was married to Nathan Edward Thomas in Linn County. The most of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas' married life was spent in Avalon. They moved to Chillicothe in 1928. Mr. Thomas died on December 31, 1949.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by two sons, Floyd Thomas Avalon, and Eldon Jack Thomas, Princeton, and three daughters, Mrs. Naomi Collier, Chillicothe, Mrs. Freda Fick, Wayne, Mich. and Mrs. Claranette German, INkster, Mich.
She also leaves 20 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, five children, five brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the chapel of the Norman Funeral Home. Dr. Carl Bergsten will officiate.
Interment will be in the family lot at the Avalon Cemetery.
