Myna Walker Hoyt, 79, returned to her Heavenly Father on November 15, 2016. She passed away peacefully at her home in Taylorsville after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Born March 3, 1937, in Cedar City, UT, to John Erwin and Susan Jeannette Walker.
Mom was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in many callings, including several years at the Jordan River Temple. She earned an Architectural Drafting and Technical Writing degree from Utah Technical College. In 1997, she retired as an Operations Chief from Amoco Oil after a 27-year career. She was the first woman hired in the operations-side of the refinery, paving the way for other women in the industry. She was affectionately known by her co-workers as "Mother."
She always put her family first - there were many game nights, hockey trips, dance recitals, sporting events and holiday gatherings. She was both mother and father; giving us the gift of self-sufficiency, teaching us how to cook, clean and laugh. Mom always told us "if a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well."
Married in the St. George Temple, December 21, 1962, later divorced.
She was blessed with four children who were her greatest joy: Mark (Debra) Hoyt, Layton, UT; Scott (Stephanie) Hoyt, Henderson, NV; Clark (Tina) Hoyt, Riverton. UT; Jeannette (Richard) Peacock, Taylorsville, UT; and 12 amazing grandchildren, who were an even greater joy. Also, survived by siblings Burt Walker and Wilma Bratton; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Proceeded in death by her parents, sisters' Ronda Brinkerhoff, Nan Brockmeier and Marie Orton.
