Reserve 1e Luitenant Militaire Luchtvaart [Reserve 1st Lieutenant Royal Netherlands Air Force], serving with 322 (Dutch) Squadron R.A.F.

He twice received the Bronzen Leeuw [Bronze Lion; an award for those who have shown extreme bravery and leadership in battle favouring The Netherlands]:
recipient number 100 - awarded 14 January 1943 for work carried out as a secret agent with the Special Operations Executive [SOE] during 1942;
recipient number 1143 - awarded posthumously on 31 March 1952 for service on 1 April 1945.

He had originally escaped to England in March 1941 and was trained there as a secret agent. He returned to the Netherlands in September 1941 but in October he was betrayed and then captured by the Germans who sent him to the infamous Oranjehotel, Scheveningen. Although he was sentenced to death he managed to escape the day before his execution and eventually made his way back to England in February 1942. He then trained as a pilot and was assigned to 322 Squadron and it was while taking part in Operation Glasshouse A ', an armed reconnaissance over eastern Netherlands, that he crashed near Borne, Overijssel. Because of his past service with SOE he flew with identity tags bearing the alias C. Harvey.

Husband of Pamela Anne E (née Boreham) Homburg. Son of Hendrik Homburg and Helena Frederika Hoogendijk.

Initially buried at Delden he was later re-interred with military honours at Duinhof. Also commemorated on the Ijmuiden, 'Monument Voor De Gevallenen', Plein 1945, IJmuiden and the Delden, 'De Schreeuw', Ressingplein, Delden, Overijssel.
