William J. Pfeffer, age 84, of 1015 Madison St., Manitowoc, died on Sunday afternoon, July 6, 2008, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.
He was born on March 15, 1924, in Manitowoc, son of the late Joseph and Viola (Schreihart) Pfeffer. William was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, class of 1942. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a staff sergeant, and being involved in the European Theater, Invasion of Omaha Beach, Normandy Beach, and the Battle of the Bulge.
On Sept. 13, 1947, he married the former Hilaria A. Anhalt at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. She preceded him in death on June 24, 2005. After serving in the U.S. Army, William returned to Manitowoc, and joined his father in the family furniture business, J. Pfeffer & Sons. After the closing of the furniture store in the 1960s, William was employed with the Weyerhauser Company for 26 years until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter: Margaret; an infant son: Robert; and a sister: Betty Teteak.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2008, at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc.
Officiating at the service will be Deacon Alan Boeldt, with entombment at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc. Military Rites will be accorded by VFW Otto Oas Post 659.
The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2008.
