David Dyer Dexter, 75, of Roseland, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016, at his home. Born in Dayton, Ohio, November 27, 1940, he was the son of the late Henry Kirk Dexter and Dorothy Dyer Dexter.

David earned his PhD in Chemistry from Georgetown University, which launched his career in academic computing. He guided the implementation of computing and network technology at Alma College in Michigan, Middlebury College in Vermont, and the University of Mount Union in Ohio. He also had a life-long love of viniculture, planting vineyards and making wine everywhere he lived.

His passion for classical music started at an early age. He attended Summer Arts Camp at Interlochen Center for the Arts while in high school. One of his greatest joys was having toured the Soviet Union, Middle East, and Eastern Europe for 15 weeks in early 1961 with the University of Michigan Symphony Band.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Sharon Jane Dexter; his son, Scott David Dexter and wife, Amy Hughes of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and his daughter, Katherine Elizabeth Willis and husband, Richard Willis of Cary, N.C., and their daughter, Mya Rosalin Willis.

Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, in Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery. A memorial service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church celebrated by the Rev. Marion Kanour. Byrum-Parr Funeral Home is serving the family.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made In Memory of David Dexter to the Interlochen Center for the Arts, Attn: Advancement, P.O.
