Elsie Pearl Wilhelmina Tinney, 101, of rural Mora, died Saturday, November 19, 2016, at Good Samaritan Care Center, Cole Camp. She was born on February 28, 1915, on the family farm near Mora, Missouri, a daughter of Andrew and Ida (Weber) Renken.

On March 25, 1915, she was baptized at home by Rev. F. W. Matuschka. She attended grades 1-2 at Pacific Rural School near Mora and grades 3-8 at Trinity Lutheran School in Cole Camp. In April of 1928, she was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church by Rev. Karl Niermann.

In 1932, she graduated as Salutatorian of Cole Camp High School. After graduation, she attended Missouri Valley College in Marshall for two years and University of Missouri in Springfield for two years, graduating with a Business Major in 1936. She then attended Burrough's Business School of Kansas City, Missouri, with an emphasis on Machine Bookkeeping.

She worked for Smith Brothers Manufacturing Company in Carthage for four years, where she opened their machine bookkeeping department and then for (General Mills) Grain Company (Betty Crocker) for six years, where she opened their machine bookkeeping department as well.

On July 8, 1945, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cole Camp, she was united in marriage to Wayne Tinney by Rev. T. J. Weinhold. This union was blessed with the gift of two sons, Matthew and Frank.

Her husband Wayne owned and operated a garage in Kansas City, Missouri, where she did his bookkeeping. While living in Kansas City, they were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

In 1952, they moved to the Renken family farm near Mora and transferred their membership to Trinity Lutheran Church. She was Trinity Church secretary from 1964-1971 and was a member of Trinity Missionary Society and Trinity Circle Plan for many years.

She is survived by: a son, Matthew Tinney and Ramona of Mora; a daughter-in-law, Janice Tinney Gerken of Mora; three grandchildren, Justin and Lindsey Tinney, Meredith and Grover Stuart, and Lauren and David Cox; and three great-grandchildren, Leighton Pearl Tinney, John Jace Tinney, and Ruby Kay Cox.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Tinney in 1984, her parents, Andrew and Ida Renken, her son, Frank Tinney in 1991, and twin granddaughters, Tara Brooke and Heather Dawn Tinney.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cole Camp, with Pastor Allen Braun officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Lutheran Hour Ministries or Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund in care of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.
