James F. Baker, 61, of South Buffalo, died at 9:20 p.m. Saturday (April 26, 2003) in Fair Winds Manor, Winfield.

He was born Dec. 8, 1941, in South Buffalo.

A veteran, he served with the Air Force.

Mr. Baker was a machinist at Westinghouse, Cheswick, for 26 years before retiring in 2002.

He was a member of Srader Grove United Presbyterian Church, South Buffalo, International Brotherhood of Electric Workers, Cheswick local electrical union, National Rifle Association and North American Hunting Club.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, farming, feeding birds and building bird houses.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Peggy A. Lewis Baker; a son, James A. (Dawn) Baker of Kittanning; a daughter, Mrs. Deborah (Rodney) Friend of Slate Lick; his mother, Verna I. McGregor Baker of South Buffalo Township; a brother, Edward A. (Ruthie) Baker of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and a sister, Mrs. Joyce (Charles) Conti of Freeport.

He also is survived by four grandchildren, Kyle and Morgan Friend of Slate Lick and Corey Loughrey and Jeffrey Baker of Kittanning.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank H. Baker.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in REDMOND FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 High St., Freeport, where services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Mark Davis, pastor of Slate Lick United Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
