Willie Jean "Jean" Ackerman, a long-time resident of Oklahoma City, passed away on November 22, 2016. She was born on October 12, 1922, in Sayre, OK. After finishing high school in Sayre, she went to Oklahoma A&M College (Oklahoma State University) where she graduated with a degree in home economics. She later completed a dietician internship at St. Anthony Hospital. While at OA&MC she met Paul Ackerman Jr. who was stationed there for army training. Paul and Jean married in 1944 and spent 35 loving years together.
Jean was predeceased by her husband, Paul Ackerman Jr.; her parents W.M. and Nova Claude Murphy; her sister Ernestine West and husband Norvel; brother Lomax Melville Murphy and wife Nora Colleen; nephew N.J. West; and two great grandchildren, Aubrey and Luke Flickinger. She is survived by her daughter Ann Ackerman and husband, Wayne Stone of Oklahoma City; and son Paul Ackerman III and wife, Pam of Norman; granddaughter Abbie Flickinger and husband Brad of Edmond; grandson Adam Ackerman of Norman; and great grandson Lawson Flickinger. She is also survived by three nieces Annette Murphy and husband Dan Martin, Gay Williams and husband Richard, and Kay Hanks and husband Rick, all of Oklahoma City; and two nephews Lomax Murphy Jr. and wife Marilyn of South Carolina; and Michael Murphy and wife Karrol of Missouri.
Jean enjoyed sewing, reading, playing bridge, music, painting, church and most importantly her family. She served as a volunteer her entire life doing activities such as PTA, Little League Baseball, Camp Fire Girls, Cub Scouts, YWCA, and Meals on Wheels.
For the last years of her life Jean received loving care from the members of the Heaven House. The family gives them their greatest gratitude. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 2717 W. Hefner Rd. Oklahoma City. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, November 26, 2016 in the Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Chapel.
