Born on July 28, 1914, in Lexington, NC, he was the son of the late Rev. William and Everda Golightly and was first married to the late Shirley (Shaw) Golightly.
A former program director and announcer at WSPA-Channel 7 where he worked for many years, he also had the first live television broadcast as Cousin Bud on WSPA.
A member of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg since 1943, he was a member of the church choir and directed the music at several assemblies and the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
He was a White Oak Estates volunteer where he sang for the nursing home every Tuesday for many years and was named volunteer of the year for White Oak Estates.
Mr. Golightly was a long-time member and soloist with The J. F. Floyd Mortuary quartet. He was also a building contractor and developer.
Survivors include his wife, Omalee (Thornton) Golightly; a son, Bill Golightly and his wife Debbie of Stone Mountain, GA; and a number of nephews and two nieces.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Visitation was 12:45-1:45 PM on Saturday, January 6, 2007, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.
Funeral services followed at 2:00 PM at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Bill Adams and the Rev. Robert C. Morgan. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Honorary Escort was members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and E. W. Sprouse.
