Juan Ontiveros, 85, passed away peacefully at his family home on May 1, 2012, in Salinas, California. Juan was born on July 24, 1926 in Canaclán, Durango, Mexico, to Casimiro Ontiveros and Maria Burciaga.
As a young man, Juan emigrated from Mexico in 1948 and lived in Texas for a few years; then, he moved to Salinas CA, in 1950 where he lived for more than 50 years. Many years late, Juan met Soledad Luna; they got engaged and then got married on May 8, 1972. After getting married, Juan made all the necessary arrangements to bring his wife s three teen-aged children to Salinas, CA, from Mexicali.
Juan worked in the artichoke fields in Castroville, CA, most of his life and retired in 1991from Sea Mist Farms. He was a committed and loyal employee and took pride in his work.
Juan was a loving and caring grandfather; he loved and cared for all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Juan loved spending his days gardening and working around his family home. Nothing meant more to him than spending time with his family, but most of all with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Juan was preceded in death by his father Casimiro Ontiveros; mother Maria Burciaga; sisters Maria and Gregoria; brother Jose; and by his first wife Margarita Guerrero and stepson Nicolas Valenzuela.
Juan is survived by his wife, of 70 years, Soledad L. Ontiveros; daughters Carmen R. Ramirez and Maria Angeles Rios of Salinas; son Jose Luis Rojas of Salinas; sisters Nena Ontiveros of Castroville, CA, and Anegunda of Durango, Mexico; brother Abel of Tijuana, Mexico; 9 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Juan also left behind many nephews and nieces whom will miss him greatly.
Juan will be greatly missed by all his family members!
