MOORE, Joseph W., 85, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 11, 2000. Mr. Moore was born June 7, 1914, in West Point, Va., to James and Mildred Brown Moore, both deceased. On August 14, 1944 he married Norma Carter, who survives him, and they moved to Richmond shortly after the birth of their daughter. They have lived in Roanoke most of their married life. Three of his siblings, Maurice, Mabel and Nelson are also deceased. Mr. Moore was a disabled American veteran who served in World War II in North Africa. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Norma; and his daughter, Dr. Millie Moore. He is also survived by two sisters, Etcil Hubbell and her husband, Al, who reside in Fort Myers, Fla., and Barbara Moore Page, who resides in Williamsburg, Va. Mr. Moore was a member of North Roanoke Baptist Church. A graveside service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2000 in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with a close friend of the family, Dr. Paul B. Welleford, conducting the service. Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, The Rescue Mission, or North Roanoke Baptist Church. Arrangements by Simpson-Tharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center. (366-0707)
