PORTLAND – Anna T. Brennan, 99, died Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough.

Born on October 1, 1917 in Portland, Anna was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (McCoy) Burke. She graduated from Portland High School in 1934. Following high school, Anna attained her B.A. in education from University of Maine in Gorham.

Anna met her husband, Robert T. Brennan, shortly after he graduated from Bentley College in Massachusetts. They were married on July 31, 1944 at St. Patrick’s Church. Together, they made their home on Bolton Street and later Woodfield Road where they raised 5 children.

Anna taught fourth grade for several years and later worked as a substitute teacher after her first child was born. Throughout her life, she was very involved in her children’s activities by attending games, school board meetings, amongst several other activities. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing in the Portland Women’s Chorus, and volunteering at the local food pantry with her husband. Anna and her husband enjoyed traveling, especially to Ireland, Spain, Portugal, and Italy. One of their favorite places to visit every fall was St. Anne de Beaupre in Quebec.

In addition to her parents, Anna was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Robert T. Brennan; brother, Joseph C. Burke; sister, Mary Mallett; daughter-in-law, Diane Brennan; son-in-law, Phil Callahan.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary C. Brennan-Callahan of CA; sons, Robert T. Brennan, Jr. and wife Maureen of SC, John Brennan and wife Barbara of Edgecomb, ME, Peter G. Brennan and fiancé Stephanie of Old Orchard Beach, Michael J. Brennan of NJ; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Residence, Mercy Hospital and Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for the compassionate care Anna received.

Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, November 29, from 4-8PM at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 30, at 10:15AM followed by an 11AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Church, 673 Stevens Ave, Portland. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland.
