Gerald Forbes, 87, of Newburgh, formerly of Shelburn, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thanksgiving Day Nov. 24, 2016.

He was born February 9, 1929 in Sullivan, to Andrew and Cora (McDaniel) Forbes.

Survivors include his stepchildren, Tom Miller of Lewis, Joy Faught of Jasonville, Kim and David McKinley of Doan, Tim and Linda Miller of Shelburn, Janice and Lester Hinton of Newburgh and Dorcas Akers of Hammond; grandchildren, Lee Baker Jr., Kathy Ferguson, Ruth Ann Baker, Donnie Miller, Sandy Smith, Gary Miller, Gene Miller, Amy Scarbrough, Stacy Yeryar, Michelle Walters, Kayla Meredith, Bill Miller, Jamie Robertson, Greg Hinton, Fred Akers and Jim Akers, Justin Houser; several great-grandchildren; brother, Jack and Marge Forbes of Ill.; sister-in-law, Anna Frye of Jasonville; very special caregiver, LaToya Bussell of Evansville; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wives, Barbara (Hinton) Forbes and Dorothy (Miller) Forbes; daughters, Sherry Jane and Sheryl Ann Houser; sisters, Frances Hauger, Dorothy Holmes; brothers, Eugene Forbes, Robert Forbes, Raymond Forbes, Floyd Forbes; step-son, Rex Miller; step-daughter, Carolyn Baker; grandsons, Tony Faught and Joshua Hinton.

Gerald attended Shelburn Church of God for years before becoming a member of Friendly Grove Baptist Church.

Gerald was an Army veteran of the Korean War who enjoyed singing in churches, nursing homes and teaching Sunday school. He also loved watching all sports and especially the news.

Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home, 218 South Meridian Street, Jasonville, coxfuneralhomejasonville.com.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday November 29 at Friendly Grove Baptist Church with visitation one hour before the service with Pastor David Smith officiating.

Interment will be at Westlawn Cemetery in Farmersburg, with Military Graveside Rites.
