Mrs Mary Bicknell died last Monday morning at 2 o'clock, at her residence on Sixth street.

She was the widow of Mr M L Bicknell [This, I believe, is an error - I found no M L Bicknell in Columbia at the time and every reference to a connection correlates to S T Bicknell.], who preceded her to the grave many years ago. Judge Wallace of Franklin, was her brother, and the children who survive her are two daughters, Miss Maggie and Laura, and two sons, Dr Sam and Mr Jess Bicknell. She was also the step-mother of Mrs J P Street.

She was born in Apr 1810; her life journey was 77 years long; years of trials, years of patience, self-sacrificing good works. She was reared i a home blessed by genuine intelligent piety, culture, and refinement, and in the morning of life she gave her heart to God and her hand to the church of her choice - the Presbyterian - and from that early consecration without wavering she kept the faith until the Master called, "come up higher."

The funeral services were conducted by Rev F B Webb at the residence Tuesday at 11 o'clock. Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. The Pall bearers were W J Dale, J W Frierson, Alex Titcomb, Eugene Anderson, O P Rutledge, F C Lander.

The Columbia Herald 19 Jun 1896.
