Donna Leah Brown

February 20, 1932 - April 24, 2018

Donna Leah Lukas Brown was born Feb. 20, 1932, to Stein and Gladys (Baker) Lukas in Pauline, Nebraska.

Donna spent her childhood in Pauline and graduated from Blue Hill High School in Blue Hill, Nebraska. She then taught two years in country school, first- through eighth-grades.

Donna married LaMoine Gene Brown 66 years ago on Aug. 12, 1951, at the United Methodist Church in Pauline, Nebraska. Two children, Rita Marlene and Robert LaMoine were born in Pauline. The family moved to Montrose, Colorado in 1956.

Donna kept busy taking care of the family home. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Choir in Montrose, the Kappa Phi Sorority and the Kappa Phi Notes. She taught Sunday school classes at the church for more than 30 years. Donna, after the children were in school, became employed as a legal secretary for 11 years, and for 18 years as an administrative assistant for Western Area Power Administration. She loved to read and enjoyed working in her yard and garden, especially her rose garden, traveling, and spending time with family.

Surviving family members include her husband, LaMoine Gene Brown; son Robert LaMoine (Sandy) Brown of Windsor, Colorado; daughter, Rita Marlene Brown Kitzmiller of Montrose; brothers, Charles (Karen) Lukas of Hershey, Nebraska; Larry (Chandra) Lukas of Lincoln, Nebraska; one granddaughter, Dr. Jessica Marlene Brown (Dr. Dan Shackelford) of Pewaukee, Wisconsin.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Stein and Gladys Lukas; one sister Patty Lukas Muhleisen, one brother, John N. Lukas; two brothers-in-law, Merle Brown and Ardene Muhleisen, one son-in-law, Gary D. Kitzmiller.

Memorial contributions may be made in Donna Brown’s name to HopeWest Hospice, 725 S. 4th St., Montrose, CO 81401.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, May 7, at the United Methodist Church in Montrose, with a reception to follow. A private family inurnment will follow the reception at Cedar Cemetery in Montrose.
