She was born to the late Sanford and Rosa Comer Colbert. She is the fifth of six children, all of whom preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hunter confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Springhill Zion Baptist Church where she remained faithfully until her health began to fail her and she could no longer attend.
Mrs. Hunter was educated in the Barbour County School System. She was later employed by Rebecca Comer School, where she gave 28 years of service as one of the best culinarians to ever prepare meals for that school. She was ever grateful for the job. She loved putting a smile on the children's faces while having a means to support her family as well.
Mrs. Hunter was united in holy matrimony to the late Joseph Lee Hunter in 1959 in Phoenix City, Alabama. To his union thirteen children were born: Rosa Mae (Jackson) Colbert of Jacksonville, FL, Otis (Mildred) Colbert of Tampa, FL, Martha Groom of Jacksonville, FL Glenda (Jimmy) White of Phoenix City, AL, Murry Lee (Tina) Hunter of Clarkesville, TN, Rebecca (Larry) Shorter of Eufaula, AL, Jolinda (George) Walker of Dothan, AL, Robert (Alice) Hunter of Eufaula, AL, Jenetta (Roy Lee) Dozier of Eufaula, AL, Earnestine (Andre')Harris of Eufaula, AL, Garry Appling of Eufaula, AL, Joseph Hunter, Jr. of Eufaula, AL, Darrell Hunter of Eufaula, AL; a devoted cousin and surrogate son, Walter Gilbert of Eufaula, AL; godchildren, Beryl Napoleon of Jacksonville, FL and Natasha Porter of Pittsview, AL; four sister-in-law; Virginia Hunter Johnson of Columbus , GA, Beulah jones of Gary , IN, Laverne Colbert of Gary , IN and Idalie Colbert of Gary, IN; on brother-in-law, Robert Lee Hardaway of Jacksonville, FL; thirty-six grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
