When Archy Isaac Fleming was born on February 25, 1882, in Alden, Iowa, his father, Bluford or "Matt", was 36 and his mother, Susanah Gressley, was 26. He married Kittie B. Wright and they had one daughter together. Both wife and infant died in childbirth, 5 Sept 1905, in Newkirk, Oklahoma Territory. He went back to school to be able to obtain a teacher's certificate. He married Zella J. Johnson in 1909 and they had two daughters together. In 1916 he earned a B.A. in education from O.U. and taught high school in Boulder, CO. They divorced in 1926. He died on June 2, 1948, in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 66.

He was cremated and his ashes are in the Fairmount Mausoleum on the same wall as Zella Johnson Fleming, the mother of his two girls, Ruth and Alma.
