Robert D. Pershing, age 75, of St. Louis, formerly of Breckenridge, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2016 at home with family by his side.
Robert was born May 8, 1941 in Alma, the only son of Keith and Geraldine (Husted) Pershing and was raised by Geraldine and Ben Bishop. He graduated from Breckenridge High School with the class of 1959. He married his first wife Betty Clapp on November 4, 1961 and second wife Margaret Anne Monk on June 13, 2003 in Gatlinburg, TN. Robert worked as an Insurance Adjuster first for Mutual of Omaha and then for Pennsylvania Life. He was a member of the Breckenridge Congregational Church and former President of the Breckenridge Little League. Robert enjoyed golfing, reading western paperbacks, showing classic cars and wintering in Florida. Robert was a quiet man with pride and love for his family.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, children Beth Pershing, Bobbi (Mike) House, Mike (Jodie Stone) Pershing, step-children Alyn (Judy Rhodes) Stephens, Kathy (Miles Falck) Kae, Jennifer (Bill) Johnson, 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and two God children Dylan Caspar and Jeff Clapp.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather and first wife.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 11 am at the Breckenridge Congregational Church with Pastor Maggie Wallin officiating. Interment will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm at the Lux and Whiting Funeral Chapel, 156 W. Saginaw, Breckenridge, MI 48615 and Thursday from 10 am until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Breckenridge Congregational Church.
