CROFUT.--Bro. Joel Crofut, of Colesville, Broome Co., New York, died Oct. 29, 1876, aged 59 years. He died from an injury he received in falling from a wagon by the seat giving way which broke his shoulder and injured his chest and head seriously and confined him for several weeks. The inflammation settled upon his lungs and all resulted in his death. He was converted to God when about twenty years of age and soon joined the Methodist Episcopal Church which he served in all its requirements as class leader, steward, Sunday-School superintendent and sexton, and faithfully sustained the church in its financial interests. He was a zealous Christian and constant attendant upon the means of grace. During his sickness he was a great sufferer. I visited him several times during his illness, and always found him hopeful and confiding in Christ. He expected to recover until near the closing up of life but was resigned hopeful and happy and passed away with triumph to his reward. He will be greatly missed by the society in which he lived, and all join with Sister Crofut in mourning their loss which is his infinite gain.
