KERRVILLE - Oliver J. Abel, 83, died Monday, Jan. 22, 1990, in Kerrville.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Jan. 28 in Central Christian Church in Mangum, Okla., with the Rev. Lynn Smith, pastor, officiating. Burial was in LaDessa Cemetery in Mangum by Grimes Funeral Directors.
A native of Bensen, Ark., he had been a Kerrville resident for three years and a former Amarillo resident.
He was a retired college professor and an active member of the National Education Association during his long teaching career.
Mr. Abel was a member of the Lions Club, past president of the Senior Citizens in Amarillo and a was a Scoutmaster for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. Philip Abel of Fort Worth; and DeJuan Abel of Kerrville; one brother, Burl Abel of Lubbock; 9 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
