Mom. Carol Ann Goff was the daughter of R. Wayne Goff & Betty Kane Goff and sister of Nancy.
She married her High School sweetheart, Walt Reynolds in 1961. Her first son William Roland was premature and lived only one day. She had three more children and later raised two additional children. (She had always wanted to have six children, and she did)
Carol had the pleasure of working in the office for the Philadelphia Phillies in the early to mid 1960's in the days of Connie Mack Stadium. She had very fond memories of those days. In later years after moving to Florida, the family would catch an occasional Phillies game when we'd venture back "home." While not a sports fan myself, I still cheer for the Phillies, regardless of how they're doing that year. It makes me feel closer to Mom.
She also had a unique hippo collection.
Carol was known to stand very firmly by her convictions. This sometimes put a strain on some of her relationships. But regardless of how many times some of us may have locked horns with her, she was always there for her family and friends.
She was a very caring person, both locally and globally. She had once taken a career test which indicated she should be in "caring" professions. Unfortunately, her body disagreed with her first choice which was the medical field. Allergies made it impossible to work in a hospital. Her career instead became office work. She came to the realization that any job can be a caring profession, as long as you care. She also used her skills to support causes which meant a lot to her. She volunteered for political campaigns, the kidney foundation and other organizations. Since her late teens, she had written letters of appreciation, support and in some sad circumstances, sympathy to local, national and international leaders and/or their families. Most merited & recieved heartfelt replies.
In the early 1980's, Carol and Walt saw another need which they made an effort to fill. They had a foster home for teens. They later moved to North Carolina where they became house parents in a group home. About the time they left this position, they were blessed with the care of two small children of a former foster child.
While there is no grave to visit, we have made certain that Carol has two suitably unique memorials: this one, and "Momma Carol's Hula Hippo," a geocaching travel bug who is circling the world in her memory with the hope of eventually reaching Carol's dream vacation in Hawaii. "Momma Carol" has so far visited Missouri, Florida, Puerto Rico, the Netherlands, Germany & France and is now in Texas awaiting a cacher's June vacation to Hawaii.
