Mr. Robert (Bobby) Alan Hejny, 63, of Gatlinburg, TN, died unexpectedly Monday, November 28, 2016 during the wildfires in the area.

Bobby was born in the Bronx, New York, on August 4, 1953. Bobby was a Christian, a landscaper by profession, and he loved nature and animals. He loved fishing with his brother and hiking with friends. He was always kind and helpful to others. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Hejny and Alice Hejny and by his nephew, Benjamin Justin Payne. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, and sister and brother-in-law, all of Sanford, NC. He also is survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends who will miss him dearly. The family of Robert Alan Hejny wish to thank the hard working firefighters, law enforcement agencies and medical examiner offices of Gatlinburg and the surrounding areas for their tireless efforts in helping to find Bobby so we could bring him home. We also wish to thank Gentry Griffey Funeral Home for their generosity and the American Red Cross for their assistance and kindness as well. We ask that you celebrate Bobby’s life with us rather than grieve his death. In lieu of flowers, we ask that if you feel led, please make a donation in Bobby’s name to the First United Methodist Church 742 Parkway Gatlinburg, TN 37738. Pastor John Clayton was a good friend of Bob’s and helped Bob and other residents with food and other necessities over the past seven years.

Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Hejny family.
