ALFRED THOMPSON
Alfred Thompson was born in Oakland Township, Oakland County, Michigan, December 17, 1829. He married Harriet A. Steele, born in Amsterdam, New York on June 15, 1833 on February 22, 1850 at Orion, Michigan. They lived near Orion, Michigan until 1852 when they moved to Coldwater, Michigan with their infant son, Newcomb, who was born April 12, 1851 at Orion.
A second son, Alonzo, was born in Coldwater, August 2, 1852. Mr. Thompson served the city of Coldwater three times as an alderman. He was employed for many years as a clerk in the Chandler Hardware. Later this became Lee's Hardware and is now the Golden Rule Shop. At the time of their deaths during World War 1, they were the oldest married couple of Branch County. Had he lived only one month longer they would have been married 68 years. Mr. Thompson passed away January 22, 1918 and Mrs. Thompson on February 27, 1918
