Marguerite Boomhower was born on September 12, 1912 in Bad Axe, MI to the late Judge Xenaphon and Catherine (Gillies) Boomhower. She graduated from Hillsdale College. Grete married T.W. "Bill" Johnston on September 25, 1937. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1998.
Grete was a charter member of the Frankenmuth Women's Club and a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church.
She is survived by three sons: Robert (Leila) Johnston, David (Carol) Johnston, and Thomas (Mary) Johnston all of Frankenmuth; Grandchildren: Scott Johnston, Anne (Allen) Mc Daniel, Mark (Margie) Johnston, Chris (Sara) Johnston, Julie Johnston and Daphne Johnston, Rachel (Ben) Graham, Amy (Tom) Johnson, Kelly (Gary) Talarico, Karen Palomares, and Kathy (Kevin) Suczh; 19 great-grandchildren, numerous great great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and her beloved friend and caregiver for 20 years, Marge Bloom. Grete was predeceased by two sisters: Florence Pangborn and Virginia Amos.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 10:15 a.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. and 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Burial will take place between services in St. Lorenz Lutheran Cemetery. Grete's family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Building Fund or Michigan's Own Military and Space Museum.
