Serena Diane Monet, 21, passed away peacefully at her home in Irving, TX, on December 2, 2016.

She was born at Ft. Campbell Army Post in Clarksville, TN, on July 25, 1995 to Scott Monet and Gina Schmidt, and she spent her first 6 years in central Florida. In 2001, Serena and her family moved to the Treasure Valley, where she lived with her mom, big brother, stepfather, and 2 younger brothers.

Serena moved to Freeland, WA to live with her father and stepmother in 2010. She attended South Whidbey High School and enjoyed playing on their soccer team. She graduated in 2013, then returned to her family in Idaho.

Beautiful and talented, Serena had an amazing voice. She shared this gift in many ways including singing with the contemporary musicians at the Sunday evening Mass at Holy Apostles as a teen. Recently, she began audio book narration. Serena loved animals, especially cats. She volunteered time working with the kitties at Simply Cats in Boise.

Serena was an avid reader and a gifted writer. She loved books, philosophy, languages, and all things Star Wars and Harry Potter. She was a serious gamer and fan fiction editor. Last year, she trained for a local roller derby league until sustaining a shoulder injury.

Serena is survived by her father Scott, stepmother Liana; mother Gina, stepfather Deron; older brother Luke, 23, and younger brothers, Jason, 14, and David, 11. She is also survived by many loving grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. A loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, and cousin, she will be dearly missed.

Serena's family would like to thank the family, friends, and others who have helped them during this difficult time. We'd especially like to thank Chris and Lisa Peters in Lantana, TX, and the Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville, TX, for their tender loving care and literally standing by us during the most painful days of our lives.
