ROCKWELL Roger Odell Whitley, 63, of Rockwell, passed away Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, at his residence, following a period of declining health. Roger was born June 21, 1953, in Stanly County, a son of the late Lester and Shelby Jean Shepherd Whitley. Roger was a self-employed master carpenter. He enjoyed drawing and painting. Survivors include his wife of 25½ years, Geraldine Anderson Whitley of the home; two stepdaughters, four stepsons, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Two nieces and two nephews also survive. Also surviving is a sister, Karen Crenshaw of Kannapolis. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 15, at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Marty Peyton. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 14. At other times they will be at the residence.
