Thomas R. Whitaker, 70, a resident of Berwick, died Saturday afternoon, December 10, 2016 at the V.A. Medical Center in Manchester, NH following a courageous battle with cancer.

Thomas was the son of the late Raymond L. and Alice (McKone) Whitaker of Berwick, Maine. He graduated from Berwick High School in 1965 and enlisted in the USAF, serving 4 years in Texas. While in the Air Force, he received training and worked in Data Processing and made some life-long friendships with several of his co-workers. Upon completion of his service in the Air Force, Tom was employed by General Electric in the Data Processing Department and worked there until his retirement.

Tom was an avid collector of 50’s and 60’s music and had a vast knowledge of songs and artists. If he heard a song, almost any song from this era, he could tell you who recorded it and what year it was recorded. He also had a great memory for dates in general, and loved completing crossword puzzles.

He was a member of the American Legion Posts in Somersworth and Dover and acquired many good friends through his association with these Posts.

He was predeceased by his brother, John, and his sister, Joan (Whitaker) Dearden. He is survived by his son, Jason of Tennessee, a step-daughter, Katherine Valliere of Rochester, a granddaughter, Holly Whitaker and grandson, Cory Whitaker, both of Tennessee, his sister, Barbara (Whitaker) Martin and her husband Wilfred Martin of Berwick, a niece and several nephews.

There are no visiting hours. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 12:00 noon at Evergreen Cemetery, Berwick. Should friends choose, memorial donations in his name are encouraged to: American Legion, Post 69, 123 Indigo Hill Road, Somersworth, NH 03878; or American Legion, Post 8, 640 Central Avenue, Dover, NH 03820.
