Mary was born in Fincastle, Botetourt County, Virginia in 1840. She is the daughter of John R. and Lucinda Fouts. As a baby, she traveled with her family from Virginia to Chattanooga and settled here in the 1840's as one of Chattanooga early settlers. Research has been limited, but we do know that she married Henry Edmonds and they lived at 411 Foundry Street, Chattanooga Tennessee.
Mary died on October 25, 1887, being 47 years of age and is buried in Forest Hills Cemetery, St. Elmo, Chattanooga, Tennessee. She is buried in an unmarked grave.
Mary had seven brothers and sisters - Martha M. Fouts (Wayne); Oliver Perry Fouts; Mark N. Fouts; Susan Fouts (Webster); Adeline Fouts (Tankersley); Harriett Ellen Fouts; William S. Fouts and step-brother Greenville B. Fouts.
