First married to Michael Cusack with whom she had one daughter, Helen. Was widowed when Mike died in Indiana's worst mine disaster where 51 coal miners lost their lives on Feb. 20, 1925 at the City Mine near Sullivan, Indiana. The day he died was to have been his last day working in the mine and the family had sold their home and planned a move to Indianapolis. Later married Lester Duncan in whose home she had been a housekeeper following the death of Lester's first wife Florence from tuberculosis. Lester and Edith lived in Jasonville.
