Judge Alonzo L. Nichols was born August 3, 1856 in Lynn, Randolph County, IN, one of 11 children of Henry D. and Elizabeth Gray Nichols. He was educated in the public schools and Winchester High School. He taught school for twelve years and from 1880-81 he was the principal of Lynn Graded School. After this he entered law school and was deputy clerk and clerk of Randolph Circuit Court for 8 years. In 1902 he became part of the firm of Nichols, Goodrich and Bales, attorneys, and practiced law for many years. He became a judge and was on the Republican ticket in 1930 for Judge of the Appellate Court. He was married to Kittie C. Wiseman in August 1880 and had three children: Chase Hood, Mary E., and Merrill. Kittie died April 23, 1935 and on September 10, 1936 he was married to Olive VanNuys in Wayne Co., IN.
