MILDRED A. METTLER

Mildred Mettler-Tufts, age 89
, resident of Gables on the Ponds, Random Lake,
passed away Tuesday morning, April 11, 2006, at her residence. Mildred was born
on April 15, 1916, in Two Rivers to the late Mike and Grace Becker Wynzynski.
She lived her young life in Two Rivers and later married Fred Mettler.
Mildred and Fred operated a variety of businesses ranging from a crop dusting
business on the Lakeshore to a frozen custard stand in Eau Claire. They eventually
settled in West Bend, where they started Barton Heating and Sheet Metal, a business
they operated for over 20 years. Mildred worked side by side with her husband,
managing schedules and financials for the business. They also built and operated a
number of rental properties in West Bend. They were active in the local community
including the Moose Lodge and Masonic Temple. Upon retirement, the couple moved to
Sun City, Ariz., where Fred passed away in 1984.
Mildred later remarried John Tufts Sr., originally from the Milwaukee area. The
now Mildred Tufts lived in Sun City for over 20 years. John Tufts Sr. passed away
in July of 2004. Mildred returned to Wisconsin in June of 2005 to be closer to
family and friends.
She had been a resident of Gables on the Pond in Random Lake since that time. She
is survived by two nephews: Roger (Deanna) Halverson, Wayne, Pa., and Dean (Sheila)
Halverson, Manitowoc; also surviving are other relatives and friends, including
close family friends: Don and Karen Schneider of Adell. Mildred was preceded in
death by her parents; her first husband: Fred Mettler; and her second husband:
Jack Tufts; and also her sister: Wilma Halverson, in August of 2005.
Friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, 628 N. Water St., Manitowoc,
on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Deacon
Paul Kieffer will officiate with burial to follow at Pioneer Cemetery in Two Rivers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Gables on the Pond, Random Lake.
