As a young woman Ida studied cooking and was said to have worked in one of the finest restaurants in Switzerland. During this time she met Johann Jakob Trub from Uetikon. They married not long after in Herrliberg Switzerland and moved to Austria where John studied chocolate and candy making. He was soon offered a position in Dartmouth Nova Scotia with Mott's Chocolate and Spices. He was the head of candy making for Mott's. After a few years in Nova Scotia he left Mott's and opened "Trueb's Confectionary" located in Halifax on Barrington Street. Ida was a home maker in their large home on Pleasant Street in Dartmouth. They moved to Oregon not long after the Halifax Harbor explosion, which killed several thousand people and destroyed many businesses and homes. They moved to a small farm in Gresham Oregon in 1919 partly because of the view of Mount Hood which reminded Ida of Switzerland. After a couple of years they retired to Portland and purchased a craftsman style home just off 47th and SE Lincoln. John left Ida, after second mortgaging their home, returned to Switzerland for a time and then moved in with his son Dolph & family in Canada. That lasted until Dolph lost everything in 1929 and John was on his own. John died alone in Vancouver after being hit by a bus. His son Jake, who lived in Vancouver, saw his father's name in the paper, and he and brother Paul saw to it that their father was properly buried. Ida became a very strong Christian and attended Hinson Baptist Church in Portland along with son Paul and family and Oscar and his family. She lived with son Paul and his wife, Veneta, in the same home she and John had purchased, until her death. (Her son Paul paid both the mortgage and second mortgage for many years.) Ida was a much loved mother and grandmother.
