Lorenzo Whitaker, retired carpenter and painter of 601-G Thomas, died at 11 yesterday morning at John Gaston Hospital. He was 58. Mr. Whitaker, who helped rear 11 children other than his own and who aided in support of six elderly people, had been ill for 10 years. Born in Okolona, Miss., he had lived in Memphis for 40 years. He was song leader and active member of McKellar Avenue Church of Christ. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Maybelle Whitaker, a daughter, Mrs. D.E.Jones of Los Angeles; a brother, Bill Whitaker of Memphis; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at McKellar Avenue Church of Christ at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery with Cosmopolitan Funeral Home in charge.
