Akers, Victoria Mae (Hein) 70, died December 19, 2016. She was born to Frances and Victor Hein on January 13, 1946. In 1968, she married Kenneth Akers and in 1971, they had a daughter, Hillary, though they later divorced they remained life long friends. Victoria retired from working for the State of Kansas Vocational Rehabilitation Department, a career that allowed her to advocate for others, which she enjoyed and was passionate about. She was an avid reader and was active in several book clubs, she loved to travel, play Scrabble, watch Jeopardy and spend time with her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Victor Hein and Frances Roth, and grandson Clayton Matzen. She is survived by daughter, and fiance; grandson; brothers; sisters. Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, followed by burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, KS. Memorial donations may be made to American Lung Foundation or Victory in the Valley in c/o Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway St., Newton, KS 67114.
