ADA J. THOMAS, 96, of Memphis, retired domestic worker, carrier for the Tri-State Defender for 40 years and for The Commercial Appeal for 20 years, died Thursday at Methodist Healthcare-University Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church with burial in National Cemetery. Snow Funeral Home has charge. She was a member of South Memphis Senior Citizens, the Deaconettes and the Missionary Society. Mrs. Thomas, the widow of Frank Thomas, leaves a sister, Rosetta Drake of Memphis; two granddaughters she raised, Billie Jean Northern and Deborah Ann Jones, both of Memphis; eight grandsons she raised, Willie L. Williams Jr., Stanley E. Williams, Frederick A. Williams, Gregory Williams, Eric Williams and Jerome Williams, all of Memphis, Frank Martin of West Memphis and Bishop Ernest Caldwell of Linwood, Ill.; a daughter-in-law who cared for her, Mamie Williams of Memphis, 33 great-grandchildren, 54 great-great-grandchildren and a great-great-great-grandchild.
