Beloved husband of Carolyn Fichtel Babin since February 23, 1949, loving father of Leslie Babin Wisch, father-in-law of David J. Wisch, and devoted grandfather of Christine Elizabeth Wisch.

Other survivors include a sister, Beverly Babin Mahé, a brother, Norman J. Babin, cousins, and many special, loving, caring in-laws, nephews and nieces.

Russell was the son of the late Celine Lasseigne Babin and the late Samuel J. Babin.

Russell was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School in New Orleans, class of 1943. He served three years in the U. S. Navy, Pacific Theatre, during World War II. After studying engineering at LSU, he worked as a safety engineer specializing in construction and fire protection. He was a Certified Safety Professional employed for 25 years with Commercial Union Assurance Companies and 15 years with St. Paul Travelers Insurance Company. Russell's hobbies included fishing, square dancing, genealogy, gardening and woodworking. He had a passion for working in detailed miniature and among his many projects was a Dickens Village of 25 homes and shops. His most recent project included the completion of St. Louis Cathedral and the buildings surrounding Jackson Square in New Orleans, but Jackson Square itself is left unfinished.

The family wishes to thank relatives and friends locally and around the country for their thoughts, prayers and caring support during Russell's valiant nine-month struggle with cholangiocarcinoma, the rare bile duct cancer.
